"Why do I gaze again at the silent sky outside the window

Listen to the sound of horses galloping thousands of miles away
It treads on and awakened my heart that follows and pulsates"

"I Am A Person Grown by the Nurture of China" - 1980

I am a person grown by the nurture of China

I am a person grown by the nurture of China

Having drifted and displaced in another corner of the world

My heart is always facing towards China

Oh China, filling up heat and light in space

A sensibility of the charms of spring landscape

The blood that invigorates my heart chamber

Over and over again I have ascended the high places of the Great Wall

Facing the vigorous northern wind

I listen to the emotional echo of this saying in my heart:

“You are our pride”

Looking back at the yellow earth that has been saturated with blood and tears

The fertile field has been swept and washed into crisscrossing country path

I remember the turquoise-green on top of Piled Silk Hill.

It has followed the rivers and flowed through the entire motherland

Before dawn the smiling official who stood in the airport

Told me with the sorrowful wrinkles at the corners of his eyes:

The human conviction that we firmly believed in

Why do I gaze again at the silent sky outside the window

Listen to the sound of horses galloping thousands of miles away

It treads on and awakened my heart that follows and pulsates

Let me return and quietly engage in profound interaction

Allowing my life to immerse into your mountains and rivers

Together we sweat, bleed, and celebrate

China, you are not my mother, yet

The one who has always faced towards you

I, am a person grown by the nurture of China
